Doublet Scan is a great program to find any kind of duplicates on your hard disks.
At last ! A great program to find all the doublet files on your hard disks.
It' s very easy to use: Load the directory of your hard disks and Scan for the "doublet" files...after these two easy steps, you 'll be able to select all the doublet files you want to eliminate and move them to the trash....
The instructions below are short and condensed.
2. Menu & Buttons
Menu File:
New opens a new "Task" window
Close closes frontmost window
Quit quits
Menu Control:
Load lets you choose a volume/folder to add to the List to Scan windows.
Exclude from Scan lets you exclude a file/folder/disk (!) from scan.
Scan starts the scan of the folder listed in the window.
Show Path Window lets you open a resizable window to display the complete file/folder paths.
Mark/Unmark items mark/unmark the selection of the Doublet Files list.
Unmark All unmark all the selected files (wow!).
Mark/Unmark Items - Unmark All and Move to Trash becomes active when you have the "Doublet List" ready with at least one line selected.
Open Selection opens the selected folder/document/application from the Finder using Apple Events
Get Info opens the selected folder/document/application Info window from the Finder using Apple Events.
Buttons
Most of the buttons are self-explanatory and have the same functions as in the menus.
You can also click the Name, Date, Kind, Type, Creator, Size and Label of the headerlist to sort the displayed list . You 'll learn how useful it is to sort the doublet list to select the doublet files!
3. Working with the Doublet List
After you scan volume/folders listed in the List to Scan window and you have the Doublet Files window ready (Doublet Scan shows all files that have the same criteria you have chosen), you can mark the files to move to the trash. The marked files can be moved to the trash using the Move to Trash button/menu.
All the selected and the marked files will be moved to the trash using the Move to Trash button/menu.
THE FILES ARE NOT DELETED: THEY ARE ONLY MOVED TO THE TRASH !
4. Hints & Tips
There are some hidden features and shortcuts (I like hidden features!!!). Try clicking buttons with the option key down in the main window! Also the "space" key works for fast mark/unmark!
The standard setting for the preferred memory size is 6144Kb. If you have more than 17000 files to manage it's better to raise the preferred memory size.
5. Registration info
SHAREWARE $25.
Doublet Scan is distributed as SHAREWARE:
if you use Doublet Scan you should pay the author.
For registered user of Doublet Scan 2.x only $10
Doublet Scan has the following pricing.
1 license, $25 per user
A Site License costs $650 (roughly equal to 26 users) and covers all locations for your
organization within a 160 kilometer radius of your site (100 miles). One big advantage
of a Site License is that you do not need to keep track of how many people at your site
are using the software.
A World-Wide License costs $1200 and it covers all locations for your organization on
the planet earth.
Paying for Doublet Scan is fairly simple. Open the Register program that accompanies
Doublet Scan. Enter your name, your email address, and the number of single user
licenses you desire for each program you wish to purchase (or Site or Word-Wide
licenses). Save or Copy or Print the data from the Register program and send the data
and payment to Kagi. More specific information can be found in the Registration Form.
Kagi handles my payment processing.
If paying with Credit Card, you can register online at: http://order.kagi.com/?V9B
or email or fax the data to Kagi. Their email address is sales@kagi.com and their fax number is +1 510 652-6589. You can either Copy the data from Register program and paste into the body of an email message or you can Save the data to a file and you can attach that file to an email message. There is no need to compress the data file, it's already pretty small. If you have a fax modem, just Print the data to the Kagi fax number.
Payments sent via email are processed within 7 business days. You will receive an email
acknowledgement when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days and if
you provide a correct internet email address you will receive an email
acknowledgement.
If you are paying with Cash, please follow these steps:
1) open Doublet Scan
2) choose the "Registration Form..." button from "About" window
3) fill all fields that are there, save and print the file
4) send it and a shareware fee by mail at:
Giuseppe Giunto
Via Flecchia, 101
10010 Piverone - To
Italy
If you are paying with USD Check you should print the data using the
Register application and send it to the address shown on the form, which is:
Kagi
1442-A Walnut Street #392-V9B
Berkeley, California 94709-1405
USA
You can pay with a wide variety of cash from different countries but at present if you
pay via check, it must be a check drawn in US Dollars. Kagi cannot accept checks in
other currencies, the conversion rate for non-USD checks is around USD 15 per check
and that is just not practical.
If you have a purchasing department, you can enter all the data into the Register
program and then select Invoice as your payment method. Print three copies of the
form and send it to your accounts payable people. You might want to highlight the line
that mentions that they must include a copy of the form with their payment.
Kagi can not invoice your company, you need to act on my behalf and generate the
invoice and handle all the paperwork on your end.
Please do not fax or email payment forms that indicate Check or Invoice as the
payment method. As far as we know, there is still no technology to transfer physical
objects via fax or email and without the payment, the form cannot be processed.
Payments sent via postal mail take time to reach Kagi and then up to 10 days for
processing. Again, if you include a correct email address, you will hear from Kagi when
the form is processed.
Notice: soon after registering, you will receive the serial number via e-mail.
6. Requirements
Doublet Scan is fully compatible from System 8.6 (only with CarbonLib installed) to MacOS 9.x and OS X.
7. More to come!
If I see interest for my Doublet Scan (see below... :-) ) new features will be added in the next release.
8. Distribution
Doublet Scan is ©1998, 99, 00, 01, 2002 by Giuseppe Giunto. It can be freely distributed without my previous permission, without any changes and with this "Read Me" by
online services, BBS, non-profit user groups, and individuals.
Doublet Scan also can be included, without my previous permission, without changes and with this "Read Me", in all CD-ROM or disk shareware collections and in all CD-ROM or Disk magazines (anyway an e-mail or a notice will be welcome, as well as a copy of the magazine or media :-) ).
Doublet Scan may not be included in a commercial package without my permission.
The unregistered version of Doublet Scan is fully operational, but will always show its "About" box when you open and quit it. Also you can't move to the trash more than 10 doublet items!
When you register Doublet Scan the irritating "About" box doesn't appear and the "unregistered" notice will be replaced by the registration information.
Author's note:
My software development group is made up by: me
On the other hand, my beta-tester group is made up by: me and Bix
This means that if you find a bug, both developer and beta-tester groups would greatly appreciate your reporting it!
I wait for your suggestions to improve this program.
And don't forget to register your copy of Doublet Scan. Remember that a shareware author should be supported. If you donΓÇÖt pay for shareware software today, you will pay much more tomorrow for exactly the same features (but enclosed in a 'nice' commercial box).
9. Disclaimer of Warranty
This software is provided "as is" and without warranty of any kind, implied or expressed. When using it you assume all responsibility for any damages caused, directly or indirectly, by its use. Also registering this software doesnΓÇÖt give you the right to require extra services (bug fixing, special assistance, the latest version on disk, and so on): you should pay only because you think the program youΓÇÖre using now is worth the money.
10. Acknowledgement
